As a child in school, I learned differently than other students. I grew up with ADD and being in school was sometimes challenging. I would do my work, but it would always be under my desk. I was quick at my work and most of the time finished my homework before going home. Most of the time, teachers never questioned because I finished my work, but I never developed study habits.

College was difficult for me and for the first time, my ADD affected my grades. However, it also made me want to be a teacher. I wanted to teach students using their “weakness” as their strength. Not everyone understood that, but my students were succeeding in my classroom. They were making amazing gains and many students rose farther than many thought they could.

I taught for seven years in a Title I Public School, grades 3rd – 5th. I enjoyed all three grades. They each brought their own challenges, yet such great joys of success at the end of the school year. The marks that I got that I am most proud of is that every student was engaged and working to the best of their ability. I did that by simply taking what students thought was a “weakness” and making it their strength.

One student that comes to mind was a low-level reader I had. She was in the 4th grade reading at a Kindergarten level. In one school year, she went from hating to read because she struggled so much, to loving to read on a mid-year 3rd grade. That was such an accomplishment for her.

I recently spoke with her mother, and she is now in the 6th grade reading on an early 7th grade reading level. All she needed was the confidence to achieve that goal.

I decided to quit teaching last year and create a tutoring/homeschooling company that gears towards taking students struggles and make them their greatest achievement. The vision for my company is “Dream, Believe, Achieve!”.

Every student can dream, if they believe they can and work hard, they can achieve amazing things. Some students just need help in one area, which is what the tutoring is for. Some students need help in many areas. That is where the one-on-one homeschooling teaching comes in.
